|She was born Aaliyah Dana Haughton, but to her millions of adoring fans, she will always be remembered simply as Aaliyah, one of the few American female singers who can boast of having a college degree. Following her impressive showing at the TV singing contest show Star Search, Aaliyah came under the protective wings of singer-composer R. Kelley, who guided her into producing her maiden album in 1994 entitled "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number". This was followed by "One in a Million", an album Aaliyah produced with help coming from friends Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot and Tim Mosely. In 2001, following her casting opposite Jet Li in the film, "Romeo Must Die", Aaliyah released her third self-titled album, under which her song "Rock the Boat" had a Bahamas music shoot. The production proved to be particularly crucial for the blossoming career of the young Aaliyah, for later during the day, the Cessna plane that was to take her and eight others back to the US crashed a few minutes after taking off, apparently due to overloading. All the passengers on board died instantly, including Aaliyah.||
