Alanis Morissette bio
Alanis Morissette was among several singer-songwriters who gained popularity in the middle of the 1990's due to her espousal of alternative music. What set her apart, however, from her contemporaries was her introduction of confession-like songs where she seemed to pour out her deepest pent-up emotions in every melody, as seen in "Ironic" and "Hand in My Pocket", two of several hit songs that came out from her third and biggest-selling album "Jagged Little Pill". Alanis enjoyed immense popularity in Canada, her native land, where she produced two albums. The first, entitled "Alanis", sold more than 100,000 copies, bringing the Canadian upstart several music awards. Outside of Canada, however, Alanis was practically unheard of, and only after the release of "Jagged Little Pill" did Alanis received the needed attention. This was then quickly followed by "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie", then "Unplugged", and several others. All of these proved too much for Alanis, and in one tour, she expressed disillusionment with the industry. Afterward, she went to India, to practice Iyengar Yoga, but returned soon after, producing "Collection", a compilation of her greatest works.
