|Gretchen Mol was born on November 8, 1972 in Deep River, Connecticut. She went to The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and graduated from the William Esper Studio, working as an usher at Angelika Film Center. But it was while she was working at Michaelís Restaurant in New York as a hat check girl that a talent agent noticed her. Her first acting role was in a Coke commercial. Gretchen was photographed in 1994 by Photographer Davis Powell in central park. He changed her unrepresentative portfolio with stunning Black & White images which landed her on W magazine's cover within weeks. The stint foreshadowed the "It Girl" as well as "Bettie Page" looks of Gretchen. In 1998, Gretchen ended her short modeling career, and with the help of her Wiliam Morris Agency agent Larry Taub, she appeared in some notable movies like 'Rounders', which starred Matt Damon and Leonardo Di Caprio. In 1998 that she became to prominent and notorious when she appeared on Vanity Fair magazine's cover. Her titillating image gained iconic status, but her movies flopped. She was the "It girl" of the Nineties according to Vanity Fair, but her career did not follow the hype. Her comeback move was 'The Notorious Bettie Page' (2006).||
